Every year we enter the EurekaCup!, a design contest and we have won a lot of prices. Take a look in our Hall of Fame. The assignments always depend on the companies that are giving the assignments and they are varied. Every year we can send three teams per grade to the EurekaDay, so before that will happen, there will be a fiece battle between the teams of our school. Besides, we only allow two groups to start building their design, so you have to convince us to invest in your original ideas.

2017
Are you going to win (again) for us?

How to design a nice poster

Method

  • Work (in groups of 4-5) in the following way:
  • We start with an introduction.
  • Study the assignment, the sub-assignments and the assessment criteria (below to the right).
  • Brainstorm about possible solutions. How could the sub-assignments help you in working out your ideas?
  • Produce a good division of work. Think of: design, poster, sub-assignments and presentation.
  • Get to work, dividing your work properly and discussing it each week. Remember:
  • In week 5 you present your poster and design, trying to convince us that we should invest in your design

Don't forget to consult your teacher and laboratory technician!

Assessment poster

  1. How it shows all investigations
  2. How it tells about the decisions you made in the designing process
  3. How problems and solutions have been worked out: drawings, pictures and an explanation
  4. Good lay-out: is everything clear and legible?
  5. Creativity of the poster (catching title, nice to look at, draws attention)

Maximum size is A1 (being 4 x A3)

The planning

Week 1: Introduction of the assignment. Do the following:
  • Form groups of 4-5 students
  • Work on points 2-4, agree upon the work for the coming week

Week 2, 3: Design and sub-assignments
  • Work according to your planning, dividing the work
  • Discuss what has to be finished at home (and by whom)
  • Your poster must be ready in time
  • How are you going to present your design?
  • Don't forget to consult your teacher and laboratory technician

Week 4: Finish design and poster

  • Think about the assessment criteria (to the right)!!
  • Finish your poster to be used during the assessment next week
  • Discuss what has to be done at home before next week

Week 5: Present design and poster
  • Try to convince us of your design, using your poster
  • We choose one or two groups to carry out their design
  • Discuss design and materials with the laboratory technician
  • The other groups will work on an alternative assignment!

Week 6, 7: Design and build
  • Carry out your design: you've got four lessons to do so (each week an extra lesson - we will sort out which lessons)
  • Discuss everything with laboratory technician and teacher
  • Improve your poster if possible

Week 8: School final per year

Teachers and laboratory technicians will judge the quality of design and posters and decide which three groups will represent our school on the EurekaDay. Testing and assessment is done in much the same way as on the Eurekaday
